All this info was stolen from This PDAPhoneHome Post. I'm just reproducing it here for my own use and hopefully so it's easier for someone else to find. Took me hours of searching to find the info I needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Data access via your XV6700 is not free. You must pay for the priviledge to use your XV6700 on the internet. I highly recommend getting the unlimited data package. Just note that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS INCURRED BY CONNECTING YOUR XV6700 TO THE INTERNET.
How To Enable BlueTooth and USB Dial Up Networking On Your XV6700:
WARNING!! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! (I'm giving you guys the easy verizon phone lock codes!)
- Go to the PHONE application
- Dial “##3328873” and press send
- When prompted for the unlock code, enter code “000000” (that’s 6 zero’s)
- Select BT DUN
- Click Edit
- Choose enable
- Select WMODEM
- Click Edit
- Choose enable
- Push Save / OK
- Push Ok
- follow the prompt to restart your device
You’ve now enabled your phone to be used as a BlueTooth or USB Modem for dial up internet access. However, to use your XV6700 as a modem, you still need to download and install the “WModem” software. Fortunately, the poster at PDAPhoneHome was nice enough to package not only WModem and the needed driver information for Windows, but also a nice set of “updates” for your phone, including:
- USB support for internet connectivity (available on start menu with driver file)
- Automatic Time Synchronization for phone clock
- Enable GPS phone manager (for when you purchase a GPS device???)
- WIFI and cellular on at the same time
How To Install “WModem” And The Various Fixes:
WARNING!! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! Don’t trust me, or the guy that wrote this package. Examine the contents of this package before you install it. If you screw up your XV6700 or any other system by installing this package, I am not responsible.
- Download Ammertech’s “MultiIssueFixer.zip” onto your laptop or desktop and unzip it. This package contains 2 important files:
- CDMA1X_USBMDM.INF – the Windows CDMA USB Modem Driver
- MultiIssue Fixer.CAB – the Installation package for WModem and the other fixes, for your XV6700
- Connect your XV6700 to your computer via a USB cable and let ActiveSync do it’s thing. When it’s done, copy the “MultiIssue Fixer.CAB” file onto your XV6700.
- Use “File Explorer” on your XV6700 and locate the cab file. Double click it and follow the installation instruction. If you do not see a “Wireless Modem” application on your phone, then you may need to uninstall and reinstall the package. I had to do this once to get it to work – not sure why.
You now have all the needed software on your XV6700 to use it as a BlueTooth or USB Modem.
How To Use Your XV6700 As A BlueTooth or USB Modem
- Unplug your XV6700 from your computer.
- Start the “Wireless Modem” application
- Select “Bluetooth” or “USB” as the Connection Type
- Press “Start”.
- Once the app is started, you just need to connect it to your computer.
- If you selected BlueTooth, just discover the BlueTooth services and your good to go. Skip to step 8. If you selected USB, continue to step 7.
- If you selected USB, plug the XV6700 back into your computer via the USB cable. Windows will recognize the XV6700 as a “CDMA USB Modem”. If this is the first time you’ve connected it to this computer, Windows will try to install the drivers for it. When Windows fails to install the drivers, it will prompt you to locate the drivers. Browse to the folder that contains the “CDMA1X_USBMDM.INF” file and tell Windows to use it.
- Windows should have created a new connection for you in your Network Connection folder, for the USB or Bluetooth Modem. Double click on this connection and you will be prompted with the dial up networking connection box.
- Enter your username as: (yourphone#)@vzw3g.com
- Enter your password as: vzw
- Hit connect, and you are good to go!
All Set. Start using the Internet anywhere you have a phone signal.
I know this looks like a lot to do, but it’s well worth it. And the good thing is, once you’ve run though this initial setup list, you only need to worry about these 3 steps:
- Start “Wireless Modem” on your XV6700
- Plug your XV6700 into your computer or connect via BlueTooth
- Connect to the Modem via Windows Network Connections
And your good to go! Check your email, browse the web, whatever you want to do anywhere you want to do it. Just remember that an “EVDO” cell phone signal gives you broadband connections and a “1x” cell phone signal gives you just faster than regular dial up connections.
