I've had This Belkin KVM Switch setup at home for a couple of years, now. At my previous job, I worked at home a lot, and it was nice to be able to switch back and forth between my Dell laptop and my home computer. With my current job, though, I don't work at home very often. This week, however, I am lucky enough to be working at home.
Problem is, I've always had problems with my IBM Laptop and the KVM switch. The laptop would rarely, if ever, boot up on the first try. Most of the time, I would have to unplug the Mouse port of the KVM switch, turn on my laptop, and as soon as it gets past the IBM boot screen, plug the mouse port back in. And even when that worked, I wouldn't be able to switch the KVM away from the laptop... as soon as I did, the laptop would no longer recognize the KVM and would switch over to it's built in trackpoint / touchpad.
Yesterday, though, I found a fix for the problem: Disable the TrackPoint and Touch Pad in the Laptop.
Yes, it's as simple as that. When you boot up your IBM Laptop, press the Blue Access IBM button and go into the Setup Utility. Go to the Configure menu, then into Keybaord/Mouse and change TrackPoint to Disabled, and well as Touch Pad to Disabled. Then save the changes and exit the setup utility. Your laptop should now boot normally, and allow you to swtich back and forth with your KVM, no problem.
The only issue that I know of, when disabling these items, is that you can't use them. duh... you disabled them. :) If you need to use them when your not docked into your docking station or whatever, then you'll have to re-enable them by going back into the setup utility. Use the arrow keys on your laptop's keyboard to get to the Setup Utility icon, and press Enter to start it. From there, it's all keyboard anyways.
